The German Shepherd Pups Ireland website endeavours to introduce those considering acquiring a German Shepherd Dog pup to breeders, the difference with this services is that the breeders are encouraged to answer important questions that those who are new to the German Shepherd Dog breed may not have the experience to ask, and which can assist them in ascertaining which breeder(s) they feel more comfortable purchasing a puppy from, and more importantly it encourages them to ask themselves some very important questions such as those listed below:
- Is a German Shepherd Dog really for me ?
- Do I have the time, space, resources and dedication now and in the future for a fully grown working/pastoral dog ?
- Does this breeder really know what they are doing ?
- Are they specialising or do they breed other breeds too?
- Are they members in any of the German Shepherd Dog groups or clubs?
- Are they willing to provide references?
- Are the parents screened for any of the genetic defects within this breed ?
- What is the breeders return policy with regard to defective pups ?
- If for any reason the pup is not fitting in with my family will the breeder be willing to assist me in re-homing the pup or can he take it back and re-home it for me, if yes, what conditions or charges may apply ?
- Will I be require to sign a contract ?
- I am 63 and just retired, I always wanted a German Shepherd Dog. How long do they live as in 7 years time I will be 70 and I wonder will I be physically able to excercise and maintain a German Shepherd Dog who are still quite active at that age ?.

The questions can go on and on. The breeder does not have to answer any of the questions, but should they not answer them it would be a case of Buyer Beware. There is also no guarantee that the answers provided will be accurate , so for this reason we would encourage purchasers to research the answers to these questions and if in doubt about an advert, look elsewhere. There are several German Shepherd Dog Breed Clubs in Ireland and they will usually be able to point you in the direction of reputable breeders and again, look before you leap, if you get referred by one of these clubs try to get contact information for several breeders.
Puppies puppies puppies, well what about a rescue shelter German Shepherd Dog, The shelters are full of them which is part of the reason why this website was setup. If all you want is a companion and are not concerned about pedigree certs and paperwork, have no intention of breeding or showing then please do give serious consideration to taking on a rescue dog, you could be saving your best friends life. You will not find lots of pictures of cute little puppies on this website, we have no wish to attempt to influence any persons decision on acquiring a puppy using the cute (or any other) method. What you will find are adverts by breeders or kennels, articles and advice which has been gathered from those who have dedicated large portions of their lives to the wonderful German Shepherd Dog. |
